Srilanka will tour England

The England and Wales Cricket Board have announced that Sri Lanka will tour April and May 2009 to play two Tests, in the place of the scheduled trip by Zimbabwe.

The ECB last week made their position clear with regards to Zimbabwe having had dialogue with the UK government and been told that it was unlikely that visas would be issued to the Zimbabweans in light of the political situation in the country.

Instead, Sri Lanka has agreed to play two npower Test matches and three NatWest Series one-day internationals as well as a match against England Lions at Derby.

“We are delighted that Sri Lanka will tour in the early part of next summer,” ECB Chief Executive David Collier said.

“The strong and close relationship which we built up during our recent winter tours to Sri Lanka allowed the ECB, at short notice, to be able to approach Sri Lanka and confirm their availability for the international matches in the early part of next summer.”
